 ormally open to the public and learn more about the plants\, animals\, and
  history of the prairie.\n\nJoin us Tuesday\, May 18th at 7:00 p.m. for th
 e first Hitch Hike of 2021. Visitors will hike along a Loess Hills ridge t
 op through scenic prairie to reach the McIntosh Pioneer Cemetery\, founded
  in 1874. This trail is only accessible with a Pottawattamie Conservation 
 staff member and is not considered open to the public. Enjoy the spring wi
 ldflowers of the prairie including blue-eyed grass\, puccoons\, and locowe
 ed.\n\nThe public is invited to attend all the hikes in this series. They 
 are designed to introduce visitors to Hitchcock Nature Center as well as t
 he Loess Hills. The series will start with a more moderate trail and work 
 towards a healthy\, 3+ mile hike by the end of the series in September.  W
 ater bottles\, bug spray\, & sunblock are all recommended\, please dress f
 or the weather and wear appropriate footwear. \n\nWell behaved dogs are pe
 rmitted to accompany their owners but they must be leashed at all times\, 
 you must pick up and remove their waste\, and you may be asked to remain t
 oward the rear of the group if there is a large number of participants. Th
 is is an educational program\, disruptive pets may be asked to leave the g
 roup.\n\nDue to COVID-19 the format of this program may be adjusted. Pleas
 e check back for updates.\n\nPre-registration is not required for this eve
 nt\, free will donations will be gratefully accepted & used to fund additi
 onal free & low cost public programming at your county parks.\n\nParticipa
 nts must purchase a $5.00 per vehicle daily pass with exact change or chec
