They became interested in native plants and attrac ting pollinators after they spent the first year pollinating their vegetab le flowers by hand using an electric toothbrush due to lack of native poll inators in their subdivision\n\nOver the last seven years\, they have adde d gardens and learned about native plants from classes\, plant nurseries\, the Nebraska state arboretum\, and Benjamin Vogt of Monarch Gardens Inc. in Lincoln. They did all the work themselves\, including planting\, mulchi ng\, pruning\, and weeding. The gardens have evolved\, and each year they add to them. \n\nTheir gardens include: a pollinator garden\, an herb gard en\, a prairie\, a butterfly garden and two bloom boxes. One of their frie nds describes their gardens as: “an example of good stewardship. The Lehos ky’s make room for native habitat while maintaining a space that still con forms to contemporary ideas of beautiful”.\n\nLight snacks will be provide d.
