  Midwest but a new\, swift\, and little understood disease has recently em
 erged in our area with the potential to eliminate these iconic trees from 
 our landscape. Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center on June 29th on at 7:00 
 p.m. for the second of three training sessions for a volunteer project aim
 ed at understanding and alleviating the effects of this new threat.\n\nTra
 ining sessions will cover a variety of topics & include field training ses
 sions to help volunteers practice their skills & become independent projec
 t volunteers. Topics covered will include the project & field data collect
 ion app\, oak ecology\, & oak fire wounds. Portions of the training will o
 ccur out of doors and off-trail\, so please dress appropriately.\n\nPartic
 ipants will need to provide their own smartphone for data collection and m
 ust be willing to download and install the project and data collection app
 lication for use. The app is available for both iPhone & Android users. Pa
 rticipants are also asked to dress for the weather including appropriate f
 ootwear for outdoor terrain. A notebook\, water bottle\, and snack are als
 o recommended.\n\nDue to the paperwork needed to register new participants
 \, we are asking that interested parties register online in advance. For q
 uestions not answered online please call 712-545-3283. \n\nThere is no fee
  to attend these training sessions & participants do not need to purchase

 s.\n\nAbout the Hitchcock Oak Inventory Project\n\nPottawattamie County Co
 nservation's Hitchcock Oak Inventory Project (HIOP) is a truly original vo
 lunteer-led citizen science effort. The project aims to support researcher
 s' efforts to better understand the dramatic decline and mortality of oaks
  observed throughout our region. Additionally the project helps ensure tha
 t current and future generations of oaks remain part of the Hitchcock Natu
 re Center landscape through volunteer-led protection & planting.\n\n2021 H
 IOP Training Sessions\nTuesday\, June 29th - 7:00 p.m.\nTuesday\, Septembe
 r 14th - 7:00 p.m.\n\nTraining sessions will be held at Hitchcock Nature C
 enter & will be approximately 2 hours long.\n\nWhile the project will bene
 fit most from dedicated participants project volunteers are not required t
 o attend all three sessions\, though it is recommended. Hitchcock Oak Inve
 ntory Project participants are asked to register as volunteers of Pottawat
 tamie County Conservation\, including a background check & complete necess
 ary participation waivers.\n\nParticipants should note this project will r
 equire pedestrian travel over difficult terrain. Accordingly\, this projec
 t may be challenging for young children and those with restricted mobility
