Rock Creek Station Natural History Day
On Saturday May 8th, in honor of the Nebraska State Parks Centennial Celebration, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is holding a Natural History Day at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park. The event begins at 8:30 am and is open to and designed for the public, landowners and conservationists. No registration is required. The event will feature eight sessions (hikes) on natural history, land and game species management, geology and history. Participants need not attend all hikes. When the final hikes end at 12:15 pm there is a question and answer session over lunch. Food and drinks will not be provided and attendees should bring their own brown bag lunch and drinks. Covid protocols will be followed. All hikes will start at the visitors center.

Option 1: Bird Hike with Olivia DaRunga, Watchable Wildlife Biologist with the Game Commission.
Option 2: Use of Grazing and Fire in Prairie Management with Kent Pfeiffer, Ecologist with the Northern Prairies Land Trust.
9:30 to 10:15 am
Option 1: The History of Rock Creek Station with Michaela Clemens, Park Superintendent 1 with the Game Commission.
Option 2: Oak Woodland Management with Krista Lang, Ecologist with the Northern Prairies Land Trust.
10:30 to 11:15 am
Option 1: The Geology of Rock Creek Station with Bob Diffendal, retired Professor and Research Geologist with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Option 2: Bobwhite quail and Greater Prairie Chicken Management with Brad Seitz, John Laux and Rick Souerdyke, Wildlife Biologists with the Game Commission.
11:30 am to 12:15 pm
Option 1: The Spring Flora of Rock Creek Station with Gerry Steinauer, Botanist with the Game Commission
Option 2: Whitetail Deer and Wild Turkey Management with Brad Seitz, John Laux and Rick Souerdyke.
