CE:Nebraska Nature Nerd Night: Partying With Parasites: Diving into UNL’s Parasitology Lab

Tuesday, June 15, 2021
7:00 pm8:00 pm

Not all creatures are cuddly and cute, but as nature nerds we’re curious about all living organisms, including parasites! Join us as we chat with research scientists who study these peculiar creatures. What is a parasite? How is their life cycle different from other organisms? We’ll learn more about how parasitism is actually one of the most common lifestyles on Earth, while diving into our experts knowledge, and the impressive collection representing over 10,000 species of parasites from around the world found in the University of Nebraska’s Manter Parasitology Lab collection.
Registration is required to attend: Link below

Remember- when registering you can submit your questions for our experts and, we’ll do our best to get those questions answered, and more, on the night of the event.
Speakers:
Dr. Scott Gardner is a Professor and Curator of Parasitology at the University of Nebraska State Museum and School of Biological Sciences
Dr. Gabor Racz is the Collection Manager of the University of Nebraska’s Manter Laboratory of Parasitology
Nebraska Nature Nerd Night is a free, virtual series for curious adults, exploring the secrets and science of nature in Nebraska through storytelling and conversation. Join hosts and science educators from Nebraska Game & Parks at 7pm Central on the third Tuesday of every month, as we interview experts in the field about a variety of fascinating topics; from bees, to birds, fossils, to parasites! We’ll dive deeper into the remarkable world of nature found in Nebraska by having lively conversations with real scientists, and by sharing and asking your questions with the experts.

Can’t attend a live event? Don’t worry, we have you covered. We will record each event and place it on our Game and Parks Education YouTube Channel the following day.
