TNC Platte River Prairies Work Day

Saturday September 11, 2021, 9:00 A.M. to Noon

TNC PLATTE RIVER PRAIRIE VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Thank you!

The activity for Saturday September 11 is seed harvesting. Collecting seed is especially important this summer because of plans for a major prairie restoration project later this year.

Everyone is asked to adhere to the following guidelines for social distancing:

Please bring your own water and snacks.
Work groups will not exceed 6 people and will adhere to social distancing requirements.
All buildings are closed to volunteers, this includes the Derr House. (In other words, there will be no toilet facilities available.)
Volunteers must avoid being in proximity (less than 6’) with others and must wear face coverings when working within 6’ of others. (This does not apply to members of the same households.)
Everyone must drive separately (except members of the same household or people who choose to be together).
Volunteers must sign a form promising to follow these guidelines.

Where: TNC's Derr House, 13650 South Platte River Drive, Wood River, Nebraska 68883 (on I-80 take exit 300; go south approx. 2 miles; turn right onto South Platte River Dr.; big red brick house on top of the hill.) If you arrive late, and no one is there, call Sarah Lueder at 314-603-4480.

Bring: Sturdy shoes, heavy duty leather gloves, hat, water bottle, and work clothes. Sun screen would be a good idea, too. TNC will provide buckets and carabiners, but bring your own if you have a favorite.
Please RSVP to Steve Schafer (steven.schafer@tnc.org).

Future Work Days: Future workdays for 2021 are listed below.

Other News for Platte River Prairie Preserve Volunteers

Seed collection this year will be especially important, because TNC needs copious quantities of seed for restoring a large prairie in the winter. Please plan on helping and invite a friend!
TNC’s new blinds for crane viewing need finish work, including staining interior wood surfaces and improving camouflage on the outside. This work goes beyond what can be accomplished on a Saturday morning. Let us know if you would be interested in dedicating a day to this job – weekdays or Saturdays.
Would anyone want to “adopt” a prairie by taking primary responsibility for one or more land stewardship tasks for a year or more? The benefit would be a sense of ownership and seeing the same prairie go through the changes of a season.

(If you no longer wish to receive work day announcements, please reply to this email with “Unsubscribe” in the subject line.)
