Greetings Nebraska Master Naturalists,

Our friends at the Nebraska Forest Service have several volunteer opportunities coming this week at the State Fair as well as the Forest Festival Family Fun Night in September. Please see the details below to find out more about this exciting opportunity!

Nebraska State Fair

Nebraska Forest Service has an upcoming volunteer opportunity on August 26, 30, and 31 as a part of the Nebraska’s Largest Classroom Days at the State Fair in Grand Island. We are still looking for volunteers for each shift!

NFS will be leading educational activities to teach youth about trees, forests, and water conservation at the Nebraska State Fair (Grand Island) in the Raising Nebraska Building. Volunteers can assist with half-day or full day shifts and will receive free admission to the state fair on the day that they volunteer. Information on arrival and activities, etc. will be provided upon signing up. NFS Educators will be on hand the entire time as well to assist. Activities will be interactive and focused on connect youth with forests/trees as well as water resources.

Forest Festival Family Fun Night

The Nebraska Forest Service’s flagship public engagement event, Forest Festival Family Fun Night is Friday September 9th from 4-8 PM at Horning State Tree Farm in Plattsmouth, Nebraska and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

There are several different opportunities to help with education activities and other event volunteering with little to no prior experience needed. Find out more about each volunteer station and sign up at: https://go.unl.edu/forestfestvolunteers2022

Volunteers will be asked to be in attendance by 3:30 PM at Horning State Demonstration Forest (2106 Horning Rd #7650, Plattsmouth, NE 68048) and expected to be ready to present to the public from 4:00 PM to 8 PM CST. The event will end and grounds will close promptly at 8:00 that evening. Volunteers will be given complimentary event shirts and a hotdog meal (veggie meal option available) with NFS water bottle. NFS staff will be available throughout the evening to help provide dinner and bathroom breaks as needed.
