CE: Lehosky’s Native Plant Garden Tours
River City Nebraska Master Naturalist Event!
Tour of Julian and Cindy Lehosky’s native plant gardens
When: 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday June 26th
Where: 8545 S. 98th Circle, LaVista NE 68128
The Lehosky’s have 8 gardens on their property not counting their first garden, a raised bed vegetable garden. They became interested in native plants and attracting pollinators after they spent the first year pollinating their vegetable flowers by hand using an electric toothbrush due to lack of native pollinators in their subdivision
Over the last seven years, they have added gardens and learned about native plants from classes, plant nurseries, the Nebraska state arboretum, and Benjamin Vogt of Monarch Gardens Inc. in Lincoln. They did all the work themselves, including planting, mulching, pruning, and weeding. The gardens have evolved, and each year they add to them.
Their gardens include: a pollinator garden, an herb garden, a prairie, a butterfly garden and two bloom boxes. One of their friends describes their gardens as: “an example of good stewardship. The Lehosky’s make room for native habitat while maintaining a space that still conforms to contemporary ideas of beautiful”.
Light snacks will be provided. This is a causal get-together to reconnect our chapter.
