VO:Omaha Chapter Gatehring - Chemical and macroinvertebrate testing of water at Walnut Creek Lake, round 2

Sunday, October 10, 2021
2:00 pm4:00 pm
alnut Creek Recreational Area, Papillion (South of 96th Street and Highway 37,

October: We will return to Walnut Creek Lake in Papillion with the kits for chemical tests of water quality and some dip nets for macroinvertebrate sampling. This will be hands-on training for those who have not done some of these activities yet. We'll see if there are any detectable changes as the growing season winds down compared to our sampling in August. If you learn to do something new, it will count as Continuing Education hours, otherwise it'll be standard volunteer hours.
What: Chemical and macroinvertebrate testing of water at Walnut Creek Lake, round 2.
Date: Sunday, October 10, 2021
When: 2-4(ish) PM
Where: Walnut Creek Recreational Area, Papillion (South of 96th Street and Highway 37, https://www.papillion.org/facilities/facility/details/walnutcreekrecreationarea-14)
Details: This follow-up will give us an opportunity to see if any of the parameters we measured in August have changed as the summer growing season winds down in October. It will also give those who couldn't attend in August a chance to work with the kit(s). Gathering location/directions should be the same as for the August meeting, but will be re-sent shortly before this meeting. You'll need to bring your own drinking water and be ready for time in the sun, even if we do manage to snag a table or two in one of the picnic shelters. Water sampling can mean getting wet feet, too. We'll be outside, so currently masks are optional (masks do help keep mosquitoes at bay).
