Communicating Science in the Misinformation Era

The evolution of the internet and social media has allowed consumers to filter what information they receive to best align with their personalized interests. While this customized user experience may seem appealing at first glance, it has fostered the development of echo chambers. Within these echo chambers, people’s beliefs are reinforced regardless of whether or not those beliefs are rooted in science. Because these echo chambers limit people’s exposure to opposing ideas, they allow for the proliferation of misinformation to be spread online. This talk will explore the challenges and opportunities related to communicating science in this misinformation era.
